The industry of plastic all over the world is recovering after being severely hit by financial crisis, and will play a role of considerable importance in the process of development in the future. In spite of the fact that the manufacturers in the developed regions have been seriously influenced by financial crisis, they are stepping up their own competition by means of eliminating the poor properties and reshaping or rebuilding new equipments. In addition, owing to the low-cost ethane as the raw material, the strength of the manufacturers in the North America is becoming increasingly strong.
In the field of engineering plastics, stimulated by the demand in the developing regions, the need of PC and ABS in the market keeps a good momentum. In the next five years in the future, the rate of growth per year of the global demand of PC will be as much as 5.8%, and, in the end of the year 2015, will hit about 4,4000,000 tons. It is reported that the application of PC has the fast rate of growth in the industry of vehicle glass.
It is estimated that the consumption of ABS in the global market will increase by about 5% per year on average in the future five years, continuing to overtake the rate of GDP all over the world. The fastest growth of the consumption of ABS will appear in the market of transportation and household appliances. The growth of the latter is expected to hit over 5% per year. ABS will still be predominant in the field of household appliances. Apart from this, the Euro-US market of plastic, as the CMAI report points out, will be promising in the future years. The competition between the manufacturers will be slightly intensified, as the result of which the demand may be critical. The equipments, therefore, will be kept being operated effectively. Some manufacturers are throwing themselves into enhancing the efficiency, manufacturing special products and rationally reshaping the high-cost equipments.
According to the statistics from ACC, the export of PE reached a new high in 2009, and the good momentum went on in 2010. Most of the plastic produced by America was exported into Chinese market in 2009, but, in 2010, America turned to Canada and Mexico. Though the products manufactured by the Middle East were pretty competitive, they did not lead the threat to the manufacturers in the North America who adopted low-cost ethane as raw material and did their best to seek for the opportunities of export.
Additionally, there existed a sign of recovery of the demand of Teflon film from America and the field related to non-architecture. It is expected that the demand of Teflon film from America will increase a lot, but still below the level in the year 2006 to 2007. In the future five years, the demand of PTFE rod in the North America and the Western Europe will increase by 1.5% to 1.7%. But then, considering the fact that the manufactures of PET are faced with glut in the market, the demand of PET will slightly rise in the future.
