The order and post times for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup races have not been set yet, as it is only July.
There are really a few different answers to this question. Usually when people ask this question, they are referring to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, which is going to be run on November 5, 2011. The race will be run at the same venue as last year, Churchill Downs. In 2010, the horses left the starting gate at 6:46PM Eastern Standard Time, so post time will likely be shortly before that.
Starting in 2007, the Breeders’ Cup expanded to a two day event, separating the female Breeders Cup races which will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 from the Breeders’ Cup races that are open to both sexes (though overwhelmingly male) to be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Though there are five Breeders’ Cup races for the females, Friday’s first Breeders’ Cup race, the Breeders’ Cup Marathon, is actually open to male and female horses, and that race went off at 4:11 PM Eastern last year. So the best answer for the first official Breeders’ Cup race which kicks off the festivities is about 4:11 PM Eastern, November 4, 2011, assuming that post times are roughly the same as the 2010 post times.
It should be noted that for 2011, a new Breeders’ Cup race will be inaugurated, and that is the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint. The order of the Breeders’ Cup races may change from 2010 to 2011 but the post time will likely be very close to 4:11 PM Eastern, whether it is for the Marathon or the Juvenile Sprint
The post time for the first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday’s card, which is considered the main event, last year was 1:51 Eastern, and that was for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
The Breeders’ Cup is the biggest day in American racing, with the possible exception of the Triple Crown series. The Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont have more appeal to the casual racing fan, but for hardcore horse racing enthusiasts. Friday’s racing will feature seven Breeders’ Cup races four Grade 1 races, and Saturdays’ card features eight Breeders’ Cup races, seven of them being Grade 1 races. The Breeders’ Cup is the main event of the year, and the Grade 1, $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic is the last race of the day and certainly the most important race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships.
We will update you on actual post times as the information becomes available to us, and will let you know if they shuffle the order of the races.
