Botox and dermal fillers are the most popular cosmetic treatments opted by many people today to look younger and get rid of signs of ageing. With time, the effects of lifestyle, environment, and age begin to show on the skin, especially on the face as it is the most exposed part of the body. There is a reduction in the volume of tissues of the face which results in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The solution to this problem is usage of a safe injectable such as a dermal filler (like Collagen, Sculptra, Cosmoplast, and so on) and botox (a derivative of botulinum toxin A). These help the skin regain the lost volume and cause the wrinkles to almost disappear from the face. Apart from removing wrinkles, these treatments can be used for adding extra volume to various body parts like lips, nose, buttocks, and breasts to make them more attractive.
The results can be seen within three to four days of treatment. However, both these treatments are temporary and last for about three to six months. These must be repeated after a certain time period for longer results.
Botox: It is a neurotoxin which is derived from boltulinum toxin A and is injected in small quantities as a muscle relaxant. It is very effective in the treatment of dynamic wrinkles which appear through facial expressions like frowning or smiling as a result of contraction of muscles. Botox helps in eliminating wrinkles by completely paralyzing the wrinkle causing muscles under the skin. Since the muscles do not contract, the lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes disappear. The results last around three to six months and repeated treatments help in making the muscles less responsive, thus leading to improved results.
Dysport is a recent competitor of botox which is also derived from botulinum toxin and used to get rid of dynamic wrinkles.
Dermal Fillers: They are injectables which are injected just under the skin to smooth lines, wrinkles, and creases. They are very popular in getting rid of static wrinkles which appear as a result of ageing. There are different fillers for each area of the face and no single filler can be used for the entire face. For example, Radiesse skin filler adds lasting volume to the facial skin to give that younger and fresher look while the first and only FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved filler for a fuller and thicker lash is Latisse. Restylane is popular filler which is used to add volume to the lips.
Major Types of Facial Treatments Using Dermal Fillers:
* Collagen: It is very popular in treating scars and wrinkles. Collagen helps the skin maintain its strength and elasticity. It occurs naturally in our body and 80 percent of the dry weight of skin is composed of it. Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm are well known techniques in this category which last anywhere between three to six months.
* Hyaluronic Acid: It is a natural skin component which adds volume and strength to the skin. Fillers made by this work by adding volume in the affected areas of the face which helps in leveling the skin and getting rid of wrinkles. Juviderm and Restylane are popular treatments in this category which can last from six months to one year.
Face rejuvenation through injectables like botox and dermal fillers have indeed helped humans maintain their beauty and unique identity for a longer time.
