Now thanks to the internet and the facility of online booking made convenient by portals like the IRCTC, booking railway tickets from the comfort of your armchair at home or from your office is a reality. Indian railways have kept pace with the demands of consumers and have through their portal IRCTC, ensured that correct information regarding train time table, status updates on booked tickets are available easily. Consumers do not have to call their helpline and can view this information on the portal.
How To Make Your Booking on IRCTC?
* You only have register with your user name and password to enter the site. This registration is free.
* You then access the “Plan My Travel” page to enter the details of your planned journey such as boarding, alighting destination stations. Then choose the e-ticket option.
* Through the ‘Find Trains’ and the ‘List of Trains’ options, you can get to know the different trains scheduled for your destination, the route that will be taken and the timings. The train time table will be available at a click of the mouse.
* Then you need to choose the class of travel to get the fares. You need to add the service charges levied by IRCTC as well as any credit/debit card charges to get the full fare for an individual.
* Once you have made up your mind regarding the train you wish to take and the class, you only need to click the ‘Book’ button to make your booking.
* If you have a change of mind, you can click the ‘Reset’ button and alter your choice.
* Once you have the booking reservation page in front of you, enter the names, age and the type of berth you want. Senior citizens are entitled to a discount that you may tick at the time of booking.
* You will then have a screen full of details that you have entered appearing on the screen. Then choose one of the ‘Make Payment Options’ to complete your booking transaction.
* Now make use of your credit/debit or any special train discount cards. You can take the ‘Help’ option to know details of how to execute the transaction.
* You can then either take a printout of your ‘ERS’ or Electronic Reservation Slip immediately or later on by going to the ‘Booked Tickets’ link at the site.
* Similarly book your return tickets.
If you do not get a confirmed ticket while booking and are placed in the ‘RAC’ or ‘Wait List’ categories, you can get status updates on a regular basis by visiting the IRCTC site. The refund and cancellation rules followed by Indian Railways are also mentioned at the site.
Ensure that you take along identity as well as age proof during the journey. This can be your driving license, PAN card, Ration Card copy, Passport or Voters ID card.
