Blue Northern Energy is revitalizing the biodiesel industry. BNE’s mission is to create a sustainable and profitable biofuel production industry throughout the United States. BNE combines the latest technology advances, refining processes and innovative minds to develop sustainable and profitable biodiesel production facilities. BNE provides guidance and solutions to businesses and communities in their endeavors to develop new biodiesel production facilities or retrofitting existing facilities to make them sustainable and profitable. Through its work and expertise BNE, distinguishes itself as the leader in the renewable energy field.

Blue Northern Energy (BNE) has acquired a unique technology for producing biodiesel fuel. The Quicksilver Biodiesel Technology (QSB) is a continuous biodiesel production process by the trans-esterification of vegetable oils. Multiple feedstocks may be used, allowing the lowest cost feedstocks to be used. The ability to modify the process continuously, as the feedstocks change by modulating the other reactants to the process rather than changing batch recipes, makes it a highly flexible and more efficient process. The process also allows a reduction in capital cost of up to 40% and a reduction in operating cost through lower energy cost of up to 30%. These benefits of the technology have been confirmed through a 3rd party assessment completed by the Center for Process Innovation.

The QSB technology has been extensively tested at the pilot plant in Budapest, Hungary. Feedstocks from Europe as well as the USA have been demonstrated, both individually as well as blends.

Developing and improving the technology is a high priority for BNE, and fundamental to our global expansion plans. In order to support this, BNE will be establishing a new Innovation Center located next to the first biodiesel plant in Newton, Illinois. The center will have the capability to demonstrate future feedstock processing and perform extensive fuel quality measurements for BNE plants and experimental samples.

It is the administrator of the BN National Trail facility from conceptualization, development, construction to management. This facility exemplifies the revolutionary technology of BNE and production process that utilized multiple crops, edible and non-edible, for sustainable, high quality and profitable biodiesel production.

BNE’s staff will increase to support this technology program. A senior chemical process expert will be brought on board to perform mass and energy balance calculations and design the chemical process for advanced feedstocks. Also, a technical engineering manager will be brought on to manage the creation of the high level design documents for future plants

BNE’s goal through sharing new technology, management and finance procedures is that BNE will empower communities to establish new biofuel production facilities and for existing facilities to be retrofitted with new technology to become more profitable and efficient.
