RIM is clearly attempting to bridge the gap nowadays caused by the advent of the Android-based smartphones. The newly launched Blackberry Bold 9900 is one very powerful answer in this direction.

In its effort at lesseing the divide, RIM (Research in Motion) is trying hard to troddle both the paths – one which is its tradionanl base consisting of the business men and professionals and the other newly created one by the Android smartphones from the likes of HTC and Samsung that focus on being feature rich and cater to every whim and fancy of their largely younger customer base.

In other words, it is not willing to let of its trade mark full QWERTY key board and also in the process give to the user the additional attraction of a touch sensitive screen as well as a better and more powerful camera and a media player. The Blackberry Bold 9900 does give both these attractiions. It is what y ou can safely call the 'Touch & Type' smartphone device. While it is true that only time can tell whether this particular move by RIM will prove a hit or not, we for one do appreciate the fact that this premier mobile phone company is actively tyring to figure out a new space for itself in this over crowded market place.

And that too, in its own terms. As there is no guarantee either of its being successful even if it abandons its tradional business phone approach and altogetherly adopts the path that the Android smartphones are taking. Here, it is worthwhile noticing that there is the Apple iPhone 4.0 for RIM to contend with as well.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 has thus both the physical QWERTY and the touchscreen. This is why some people also call it the Blackberry Bold Touch 9900. You see.

It also has the latest from RIM, the Blackberry Operating System version 7.0 of the platform. And the very powerful 1.2 Ghz processor. The liquid graphics technology has been employed by the Canada-based company to bring out in abundant clarity the images and other visuals that comes on the touchscreen. Besides high resolution, there is ample colour support to in the display. The five mega pixel camera completes the picture.

This is not at all to say that Blackberry has forgotten its tradionanl strengths. The E-mailing and web browsing happen as if in a dream and there is the Blackberry Messenger too.
