There have been a number of rumored BlackBerry handsets that have surfaced on the internet. These include the Colt, Milan, London, and the Surfboard. However, no one really knows when these phones will be launched. In fact, no one can confirm if the rumors are true or not. However, there is one smartphone from RIM's current lineup that gives us a glimpse of how the Canadian phone manufacturer's phones will be like. This is the Torch 9860.
The 9860 is totally different from the other handsets such as the 9810. The 9810 still comes with a slide out QWERTY keyboard just like its predecessor the 9800. This new approach to design is nothing like we have ever seen before. The phone sports a 3.7 inch touch screen. No QWERTY keyboard can be found. The smartphone sports a touch interface.
According to the leaks found in the internet, Research In Motion's new platform will be called the BB 10. This new platform will run on the company's future smartphones. It is a combination of the company's current mobile operating system and the QNX platform that powers the PlayBook tablet.
If you're wondering why the PlayBook sports a dual-core processor and RIM's handsets only sport a single-core processor, this is due to the QNX OS. It supports chipsets with more than one core. On the other hand the BB 7 OS does not.
The BlackBerry Torch still ships running the BB OS 7. However, it sports a touch interface just like the PlayBook. Although it still runs the same software just like other current handsets, it will give you a taste of what RIM has in store for us in the near future. It doesn't look like any other phone in RIM's lineup. It doesn't give that old familiar feel on phones like the 9810.
Since BB 10 handsets are expected to make an appearance sometime in 2012, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is the closest you will ever get to these upcoming smartphones. If you have been using handsets made by the Canadian firm for years, you might want to try out this new phone. This will allow you to get accustomed to a touch interface rather than typing on a physical keyboard.
Many thought that RIM was stuck in the past with its current mobile technology. This is all about to change with the BB 10. Although these phones are yet to make an appearance, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 will give you a glimpse of RIM's next-generation smartphones.
