In August of 2010, RIM released the BlackBerry Torch. This was the most unique smartphone made by the company during the time. Unlike most of the Canada-based firm's handsets, this did not come with a QWERTY keyboard found below the screen. It sports a larger display with a slide out keyboard.
During the time, BlackBerry's rivals were releasing phones that offered predominantly touch interfaces. They came with larger screens that gave users more real estate to flick, tap, and touch. This slider offered a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen. Despite being smaller compared to phones offered by the competition, it did allow you to make use of a touch interface.
Not only did the phone quench your need for a touch interface. It also comes with a QWERTY keyboard. All you have to do is push the screen upwards to reveal the input method. This allowed users to respond to emails as soon as one was sent to their inbox. Since the RIM's handsets cater more to the business type, this keyboard also allowed users to type with ease when composing or editing documents on the go. Lastly, this input method allowed users to easily type when chatting via the BBM. This IM is the reason consumers prefer the brand.
Other specs of the BlackBerry Torch include a 5 megapixel camera, a 624 MHz single-core processor, and the BB OS 6.0 pre-installed. Unfortunately, these specs are no longer up to par with today's standards. The competition simply offered more. The competition offered phones that packed more powerful processors and cameras that are capable of recording in HD.
Despite being underpowered, RIM recognized the phone's popularity. This is the reason the company decided to launch the 9810. This upgraded version of the BlackBerry Torch is a mirror image of its predecessor. However, it has more to offer. It sports a display that will allow you to watch high-definition videos. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera that can record videos in 720p (HD). It packs a 1.2 GHz single core processor that will allow you to multi-task and run games with intense graphics. Lastly, it comes pre-installed with RIM's latest software version the BB OS 7.0.
With this new smartphone, you will get to enjoy more powerful specs and the latest software in a design you have grown to love. RIM's popular slider the BlackBerry Torch lives on with the 9810.
