Black tiger shrimp acquire their name from the dark stripes that surround the shell of the black tiger. These shrimp are also known as giant tiger prawns, or tigers. When cooked, tiger shrimp meat turns white and the black stripes on the shell turn bright red. This is one of the most popular varieties of shrimp on the Asian, European, and American markets. The exporting countries are China, Taiwan, Bangladesh, India and Thailand. The primary consumers are from Japan, Europe and Unite States. Shrimp need to be immediately processed or frozen after harvest to keep them fresh. The commercial culture of Shrimp in low water has met significant success. But unfortunately there is no long term study on Shrimp culture in fresh water. Over 90% of Shrimp culture in the Western hemisphere is represented by White Shrimps. This cultivation takes place at semi intensive localities near the coastlines
During the 20th. Century Vannamei, was an important species for the Mexican inshore fishermen, as well as for the trawlers farther offshore. In Latin America, the culture of such species showed peaks of production during the warm years and reduced production in the cooler years. Almost all the harvesting size of such fish in Asia is intense on the minimum market size. Under the conditions, the market price is dropped badly due to the saturate market conditions for the shrimp of this size and that influence the profit of farmers deeply. Various methods were adopted to produce such fishes of bigger sizes to have a better market. The methods were a particular Shrimp Polyculture was adopted for the species for the same water quality requirement, rotation Shrimp and fish culture was followed to adjust the pond environmental conditions and closed water treatment was resorted to which was additive to high density culture.
Freshwater shrimp was initially harvested in an aqua cultural environment so that business could be conveniently designed to raise and produce such Shrimps for human consumption. Freshwater prawn farming shares much distinctiveness with and many of the same problems as, marine shrimp farming. Until 2000 the only category of Shrimp that was cultured was the Giant River Prawn. Since then China took the initiative in farming the Oriental river prawn. This had been farmed using conventional methods in south-east Asia for a long time. First experiments with non-natural breeding cultures were done in early 1960s in Malaysia. The technologies used in freshwater prawn farming are basically the same as in marine shrimp farming.
