There is proof in the bible that human beings were originally vegetarian, starting from the Garden of Eden till the Deluge. It was only during Noah’s time that people turned to meat as well, as per biblical history. Judeo-Christians interpret this to mean that God originally intended human beings to be vegetarian, though meat-eating is also an option. But the hunters and gatherers of old, as we know them, were devourers of all kinds of meat, of which there is ample proof. What ever was the origin of the habit of meat eating, the 21st century is faced with the additional pressures of climatic change, to which meat eating has contributed substantially. According to the research stats available with the Food & Agriculture Organisation of the UN, the contribution of livestock to global warming at 18% is more than what fossil fuels have to the heating up the earth. But stats do not scare people enough to think about not eating meat. But if you are finding it difficult to fit into your favorite jean that is only a few months old, that could set you thinking about meat and the after effects of consumption.
Well let us give up climate change for now. But though as individuals, we too could contribute to the ‘greening’ by cutting down on our meat intake while the whole point is not about the meat; it is more about what you eat and the karma associated to your eating habits. Most of us who are unconsciously in the process of gaining weight would notice the first additions happening around the hips and as the saying goes, ‘Chips go to hips'. We all dream of that day when there’ll be a magic pill (without all the fears of adverse side effects) that’ll stop French fries and chocolate deserts from evilly settling in unsightly places. But that day might or not ever come. So exploring alternatives and options might be a good first step for all who have only been dreaming of weight loss but have spent little or no effort in that direction.
Weight loss is the most abused, most misunderstood words and we just don’t want to believe that we can create and enjoy healthy eating habits that wouldn’t push us into diet regimens and weight loss pills. After all dieting always sounds like a painfully compulsive decision. While dieting, along with a proper exercise schedule is meant for the obese and the aging, it is the teenagers and those who needn't necessarily diet, who more often indulge in dieting and reasons have nothing to do with health but the looks. The size zero fad is over and gone. Yet the possibility of turning your out-of-shape body frame into a slender metro-sexual is always enticing.
The usual dieting behaviors range from simply skipping a meal or two, to more extreme measure like diet pills, diuretics and laxatives. But neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise would help on lose weight in a way that is safe to our health. The human body likes slow changes and crash courses can leave adverse complications. Switching over to a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and pulses is the best possible thing parents can do to prevent your self and your family from turning obese. As a parent it is our responsibility to set forth good eating habits for children to learn and follow.
