When thousands of websites on the internet are offering the same products and services, then it is very difficult to decide between the good and the bad. Every company put their best efforts to make their websites different and more attractive than others so that they have the maximum traffic and conversion rate. But, often some small deficiencies in your website set up can make you loose some valuable customers. Such minor deficiencies can include slow loading of the website, difficult navigation, weak cross browser compatibility or other factors like these. Reasons for such things to arise can be unprofessional coding or image slicing.
Image slicing is basically the process of taking a larger image like an interface to a photo editor to make it smaller as per the size needs of a specific web page. Slicing eliminates the need to rebuild an image just to make it compatible for a web page. Once the image is sliced into smaller sections, it can be put back together to get the desired result with the help of HTML table. A website contains many design elements like images, graphics, flash and many more. All these elements are heavy in nature and play a major role in slowing the loading period of a website.
However, when these designs are sliced into smaller ones, then the heavy elements in these designs can be divided into bigger and smaller images. Slicing is the most effective when it is done during the PSD to HTML conversion process. A few tips will help to make this process much faster and effective. Firstly, it is advisable to avoid the use of graphic elements in larger image slices. For graphic elements, smaller slices are better as they can be duplicated into your HTML coding.
Larger image slices should also not be created in too many colors. Here, it will be better to use smaller slices in limited number of colors. For websites, whose text is based on sold color background, they should not be sliced. Such text can be used in image to HTML coding. This way, both the fonts as well as the background color can be customized with the use of CSS. It is also not necessary to use JPEG file for every image. In its place GIF formats are also a good choice to utilize. In case of larger animated files, more slices should be made to isolate its different animated areas.
