The Zimbabwean flag as we see it hoisted on flagpoles today, for more than 30 years. The seven colored stripes of this national flag have special meaning and display the colors black, red, yellow and green. These colors were used by the "Zimbabwe African National Union." Other historic flags have been flown by other African countries displaying a similar use in colors.
It is not surprising that the colors have specific meaning. For example, the color green is said to symbolize the agriculture and rural areas of the country and yellow the wealth of abundant minerals that are found in the territory. Like many other banners and flags, red symbolizes the blood that was shed during wars of the past (specifically the so called "Chimurenga"). White symbolizes peace.
The Republic of Zimbabwe was called Southern Rhodesia in the past and is located in the southern part of the continent of Africa. Over the last few years and decades there has been all kinds of unrest. Despite heavy opposition but with support from the people of Zimbabwe, a new Prime Minister was chosen a short while ago. His name "Morgan Tsvangirai." Ever since the international community recognized the country's independence in 1980, Mugabe has ruled the land.
The Zimbabwean army is officially called the Zimbabwe National Army or ZNA, and was first organized in 1980, from the then existing elements of the so-called Rhodesian Army. During the army's organization, a number of British Army trainers managed the integration of the guerrilla forces into the new battalion. Like other armies in the world the ZNA also flies its respective flag from dynamic and static flag poles throughout the territory.
Flag designs that are used to represent countries and such don't just fall out of the air. In most cases designs are collected from countless entries during a competition or so, and then selected by an official committee. The design of the flag of Zimbabwe was made by a certain C. Herbert, who (back in the day) served as a lieutenant of the Rhodesian military. The republic not only flies the current national flag, but also various military flags from aluminum and steel type flag poles throughout the land.
