The BMW X3, the Marmite in the BMW range, you either love it or hate it. I’m not going to say which side of the fence I sit on as I will try to give a non bias overview of the latest crash test results for it.

The BMW X3, the Marmite in the BMW range, you either love it or hate it. I’m not going to say which side of the fence I sit on as I will try to give a non bias overview of the latest crash test results for it. With its comprehensive list of crash safety equipment and driver aids the new BMW X3 has been awarded the maximum 5 stars at the latest round of Euro NCAP crash tests.
The NCAP tests include a frontal collision, a side-on crash and a side impact against a steel post. Since 2009, the tests have also taken electrical safety features into consideration, alongside additional injury risks in a wide range of collisions.
Unlike any other used BMW in Scotland the new X3 has a stable body structure, which diverts the force of any impact along a predetermined path into a crumble zone. Other standard features in the X3 include; front, side and curtain head airbags, ISOFIX systems, Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC), Braking Assistant and BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.
The crash test assessors concluded that the BMW X3 provides high levels of safety for all occupants, regardless of their position within the car. Comprehensive injury protection is provided by the stable passenger cell in the event of a front end collision for driver and passengers, irrespective people’s size and seat position. The BMW X33 in particular, received outstanding ratings for protection of children aged three years or 18 months in the relevant-sized child seats. Maximum points were also given at the side impact protection test.
