For attracting more and more bike enthusiasts, auction for seized super bikes is further postponed from 10th January, 2011. The 13 super bikes included in the auction in the country are from Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda CBR 1000RR and Harley Davidson. Those super bikes included in the auction which are registered with MSTC and Decided by DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence). The process of registration is quite easy. A person has to pay nominal fees and attend the auction.
In the year 2009, DRI seized 84 bikes for spare parts of the motorbikes. These spare parts were smuggled in the country and then reassembled in some of the special garages of Pune and Mumbai. It came to hear that a team of sic partners including Nadar Ali used to smuggle spare parts from the Singapore. A good response is experienced from the customers by Nadar Ali because of the availability of it at lower price which is just Rs 11 lakh and if legally smuggled it can be around Rs. 17 lakh. These bikes were seized because the buyers are unsuspected and the owners need to pay 150 percent excise duty and also an amount equals penalty for acquiring the motorbike has to pay again. Hence, 64 super bikes out of 84 were returned back to the owners after paying all above mentioned penalty. A buggy was also seized by agency which is now returned to owner after making payment to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
