Whether you are an artist or an art lover, it is very important for you to keep in mind that all galleries may look similar to each other, but they may actually be very much different. Each gallery has its needs. For example, some associations assemble artworks from different national artists on a specific theme. That is the reason why they are also known as show galleries. On the other hand, you may also find associations that only focus on new artists.
Approaching Gallery Managers
If you are an artist and want to approach a gallery with your paintings and art works, there are several things that you need to carefully consider, such as what exactly these gallery managers look out for and what the best way to approach them is. It is always wise to approach them with a disk containing some sample works that you have done. If you do not have your portfolio in a CD, a printed portfolio may also prove impressive. The point is that you must have your portfolio in a format that can be filed away. While you are providing the details regarding prices and number of pieces you want to be shown, make sure your expectations are realistic enough. At the same time, you must also take into consideration the amount of commission the art galleries charge - it can range from just 5% to a whopping 50% or sometimes even more. In general, the higher the commission, the better the services - better publicity, better reception, and the like. On the other hand, if the commission is very low, the associations will probably not do any publicity for your works and you may not get a good reception as well. Most importantly, you must leave your ego at home or at least keep it under control while you are approaching the gallery managers.
Attending An Exhibition
If you are going to attend an exhibition of art collections and want to make your visit a wonderful experience, there are a couple of things that must be taken care of. If it is the first time you are going there, you may feel a little awkward or stressed, thinking whether you are the right person to enter such art exhibitions. There is no need to be afraid. These galleries are actually sales venues, and everybody is welcome there, including art lovers, artists, buyers, and browsers. Just because you are attending it does not mean you must buy at least something. Once you are in, you must start from the middle. This may sound unusual to some, as most people are used to starting from right and then visit the entire hall in a counter-clockwise direction. Starting from the center is a better idea because this way you can look around the entire hall and scan through the pieces on every wall. You should walk straight to the artwork that attracts you and then to the next one that catches your eye.
This way, your visit to these art galleries can become very interesting and fulfilling.
