Aslan Trends is a yarn company that although not well known in the UK are offering a great selection of yarns. We are going to look at who they are, where they are based, what they are about and also what yarns they could offer you.

Who are Aslan Trends?

Aslan Trends are a yarn company that were set up in 1951 and are based in South America with the aim of producing high quality natural yarns. All of their yarns are sourced directly from Patagonia and the Andes mountains. This means they are producing high quality luxury yarns that are a delight to knit with and something everyone should try.

The source of their yarns

One of the main fibres that Aslan Trends prides themselves on is their Alpaca. They love it is much as it is light-weight, warm, durable and soft which makes it a fantastic thing to knit with. It is hand spun and naturally dyed for the best quality yarns. Many people look at Alpaca as an expensive yarn but the reason for that is due to the difficulty in acquiring it. Many people are not aware that once the Alpaca fleece is shorn it actually takes two years for it to grow back. This means you need a large amount of the Alpaca to produce regular yarn for knitting.

There are a wide range of Aslan Trend yarns and one great one is called Guanaco and this is a mix of 60% Alpaca and 40% Merino wool. This makes it a truly soft and luxurious yarn and coming in over 20 colours is a great option for the winter months. It is a chunky yarn that is thicker than an Aran which will make it fantastic for scarves that you can quickly produce.

One of the other fibres that Aslan Trends uses is Angora coming from Angora rabbits and not goats. Believe it or not but rabbit Angora is actually 7 times as warm as sheep’s wool which means with a garment made of Angora you will be lovely and toasty in the Winter. A great yarn incorporating this is Invernal. This is 50% rabbit Angora, 25% Merino (from Patagonia) and 25% Polymide. This is a luxurious yarn that will help to add glamour to your garment and at an Aran weight is perfect for those winter woollies.

If you have not heard of Aslan Trends before then we recommend you giving them a try. The quality of their yarns is met only by the highly competitive price. If you are looking for that yarn to make a special garment then this may be the company to try.
