Every day it seems like the world shrinks just a little more. As communicating with on the other side of the world is just seconds away, and Internet takes us everywhere without leaving our home. In our homes, our appliances continue to mold and shrink to our lifestyles. From devices for the hand, to wall-mounted gadgets that do a number of directions (usually voice-activated ones), to manufactured appliances that are amazing technology marvels, the world of helpful human tools is ever changing.
For appliances and those companies that make them, there is good news on the horizon. Recent reports show that American household appliance manufacturers are bringing the work to the USA. This is in reversal to trends seen in previous decades when companies like General Electric, Whirlpool and Electrolux outsourced manufacturing and operational production to outlying countries like China, India, and elsewhere.
For instance, General Electric, the big daddy of appliance manufacturers, started building dishwashers, refrigerators, water heaters (pictured) and more in 2012 at a brand new Louisville, KY manufacturing plant. The company has also expanded its Louisville-based plastic parts operation. GE is now making all of its GE dishwasher racks at the Louisville facility. Prior to this, the company was making only about 40% of the racks in the US, with the remaining racks being made overseas.
Because of this move toward more US-based production, General Electric now expects to earn nearly ¾ of all of its household appliances revenues by the end of 2014 from its US production. And that’s great news for US workers and the American economy. Today, GE and other manufacturers are using new technologies to create energy-efficient water heaters, more advanced front loading washing machines and dishwashers made with the latest technologies and more. And let’s not forget refrigerators either!
If you guessed that GE is the largest US manufacturer of refrigerators, then you guessed right.
