Nowadays, people prefer to cling on to surgical procedures rather than natural therapies. Well, everyone wishes to get quick relief from any long-stretched health complication. One such surgical procedure is anterior hip replacement that aims at minimizing the aftereffects of muscle damage. Here the muscles are separated in order to reach the front portion of the hip rather than repairing the muscles to reach the hip joint form located behind. As a matter of fact, there are no such perfect ways of delivering implants to your hip joint.
The approach for anterior hip replacement was first initiated in 1917 by Smith and Petersen. In 1947, Robert Judet, the famous surgeon of France performed a separate femoral head replacement. Later, this inspired other French surgeons to go for complete hip joint replacements with the help of the anterior exposure.
A long time back doctors discovered that the hip socket visualization was perfectly achieved through the hip’s front portion. Well, it was indeed a difficult approach to place in a long metal stem right across the femur based on the anterior approach. Whenever complications took place during the operation, it was quite difficult to make alterations or elongate the anterior style simply to overcome complex surgeries and offer better visualization. The majority of surgeons therefore opted posterior hip replacement. The posterior style since then has emerged to be the most standardized surgical procedure.
However, with the help of advanced instrumentation, real time intraoperative x-ray equipments, modern generation hip implants and modern operating table, anterior hip replacement has proved a successful comeback. All these latest additions have helped surgeons to conduct the anterior hip replacement with ease and perfection. Today, anterior hip replacement has popularized among inmates and plenty of surgeons are recommending it.
Well, there are high chances of hip replacements to get dislocated. However, the chances of dislocation in case of an anterior hip replacement are less than those of posterior approach.
There are certain drawbacks in performing an anterior hip replacement. As far as the positioning is concerned, the patient should be laid on a special operating table with legs attached directly to it. The legs should be positioned in such a manner so that the hip stem can be inserted. Since the level of force cannot be ascertained, one might come up with fractures in the leg bones. Now, this is a huge negative aspect of this surgical procedure. Secondly, the implants are placed with the help of real time x-ray equipment. Now, if the equipment is somehow not positioned correctly, the implants have high chances to get misplaced leading to dislocation and therefore a painful joint.
Knee replacement is another surgical procedure where the physician substitutes the weight-bearing portions of the knee joint. Now, the gender Specific knee replacement is similar to a regular total knee replacement. Moreover, there is a huge difference in the skeletal structure and anatomy of men and women. Well, implants were necessary for women and therefore the gender Specific knee replacement emerged to be an exclusive surgical procedure for female patients who can have specific implants.
