Way back in 1992, no one had the idea that smartphones will be rage in today technically advanced world and everyone would be using a smartphone to do basic things like checking emails, sending photos etc. Later on came in Nokia’s communicator and as the technology advanced we got iOS, Android, BlackBerry and much more apart from Nokia’s Symbian OS. Nokia the market leader at one point lost its share to Google’s Android. With the introduction of smartphones mobile apps have also created a niche for themselves and they have changed the way businesses engage and communicate with other businesses and their consumers. Apple was the first one to launch mobile applications via App store and later on Android followed Apple by launching App Marketplace.
A recent study that was conducted showed that Apple is among the toppers when it comes to apps in the market as they have over 350,000 apps on the App store till June 2011 but as we all know that Android is gaining pace and moving at par with iOS Google confirmed that Android Market also has over 200,000 apps as compared to the figures in 2010 where Apple had 185,000 apps as compared to Android’s 38,000. The figures show clearly that Android is catching up and is going to leave iOS behind in the near future. Also recently a study conducted by GetJar revealed than more than 40% of the people want to buy Android and only around 20% feel that their next phone will be an iPhone.
Developers love to work on Android as this is the most flexible platform. At the same time the biggest advantage with Android is that once the apps are submitted on Android Marketplace it gets approved immediately and is available for the users to download it where as this is not the case with Apple as there the approval takes time when an app is submitted and also sometimes gets rejected. With many device options in Android the customer base for this OS increases.
Application development on android has gained speed and its market share and productivity has grown drastically in few months. With the popularity of Android OS developers the mobile app developing vendors are working to deliver industry best Android Apps for the app store of Android. Android is definitely here to stay and with the rise in its demand soon it will leave iOS behind.
