Ask anyone what the most important function of a smartphone is, and many will undoubtedly answer with web browsing. Surfing the internet on smartphones has come on leaps and bounds in recent months, with new handsets offering a web browsing experience which is comparable to using a desktop or laptop computer in terms of performance, but with the convenience of using a touchscreen to navigate web pages.

One of the new smartphones which stands out from the crowd is the HTC Evo 3D. This has the technology and features to offer a tremendous web browsing experience. In this article I will look at how it is geared to surfing the web, and what users can expect when using this device.

Screen
Without a sufficient screen, browsing the web can be a chore rather than a pleasure. The HTC Evo 3D is equipped with a 4.3 inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen. With the ability to display up to 16 million colours, it makes web pages look great, providing rich, vivid colours and impressive graphics. Multi touch is supported by the screen; allowing users to pinch to zoom into a particular image or part of a web page. An accelerometer sensor is also included which can come in handy when browsing the web as it allows users to view the website in widescreen simply by rotating the phone in your hand.

Data
Of course without a decent means of connecting to the web, the HTC Evo 3D would be useless as a web browser. In areas with 3G coverage, one of the fastest data download speeds on a phone, 14.4 megabytes per second, is achievable. The means that web pages load super quickly, and there is very little lag between clicking a link and the new page opening. An even better browsing experience is possible though, thanks to Wi-Fi. This allows users to browse the web via a connection achieved through local wireless networks. Examples of this include wireless internet routers in the home, office or in an increasing number of commercial and public locations. All that’s required is a password to access the network, but in many cases this is not even required as the networks are unlocked for public use.

Web Browsing Software
To browse the web, the HTC Evo 3D utilises the HTC Sense UI and its own web browsing software. Ever the innovator, HTC has included a number of impressive features to make browsing the web intuitive, efficient and enjoyable. For example, there is the “text auto reflow” feature. This allows users to zoom in on a particular block of text within a web page using the pinch to zoom feature. Once you have done this, the text will resize to fit the screen automatically. With many other smartphones, once you have zoomed in, the text will remain in the same layout meaning that you have to constantly scroll to read the entire text. This is a very nice feature and a good example of the innovation of the HTC Sense user interface.

These are just some of the features which make the HTC Evo 3D an excellent phone for surfing the internet. It is definitely worth a closer look when choosing a new smartphone, especially if you like to surf the net on your phone.
