Why exactly is the MBA such a popular degree among graduate students? We find out!

The majority of people have heard about an MBA. They’ve probably heard about all the famous businesspeople having MBAs and how it led them to success. In reality, many people actually don’t know what an MBA is, aside from the fact that you get it in business schools and it magically makes you rich. The MBA is actually much more than that. Learning more about it could actually give people more incentive to strive to obtain it.

What is a MBA?

An MBA (a Master of Business Administration) is a graduate degree with a wide range of business oriented fields, with a full-time duration of 2 years. It is an internationally-recognized degree designed to prepare students and further develop the skills required for careers in business and management using theoretical and practical learning methods. The core courses center on generalized business understanding and how to apply this knowledge in a real work environment. It focuses on all aspects of business, such as, accounting, human resources, finance, etc. Students also have the option to enter into specific concentrations; where they will focus a quarter of their studies into one specific career specialization.

An MBA is widely recognized as one of the most sought after degrees in the world because of its value to people in business and administration. Apart from the advanced business theory, an MBA student will learn how to perfect various skills; learning how to better working in groups, working under pressure and career networking. They will also learn how to complete long and difficult projects before a deadline and within certain criteria. Since most high-end businesses today are conducted on a global scale, one part of the course is dedicated to providing students with skills in multi-cultural relations and linguistics.

The value of the MBA, however, is not limited strictly to the business world. An MBA can also be useful for those looking into pursuing a managerial career in the healthcare sector, government, IT field, and many other areas. MBA programs can provide graduates with the preparation and practical skills needed to excel in management and leadership positions in virtually any industry. Today there are over 2,500 MBA programs offered worldwide. Many MBA graduates go on to become hospitals administrators, software development coordinators, and even sport team managers.

Not just anyone can enroll into an MBA program. To be accepted, an applicant must take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The GMAT is a standardized test that does not just test your knowledge in one particular subject., but actually, is designed to measure the aptitude of a candidate in several fields. The exam measures verbal, mathematical, and analytical skills that students have developed over time. Another requirement for many MBA programs is work experience. Many undergraduates take some time off from school before pursuing an MBA to advance their careers.
