Getting locked out of the house always seems to happen at the most inopportune times. Remember the time you had just finished shopping for a whole weeks worth of groceries and it dawned on you halfway home that you had given your house key to your mother the week before so she could water the plants while you were at your sister‘s house. But of course you really didn’t have to much worried about because you belong to a very savvy family and they always think ahead.

That extra key that comes in so handy is always right above the door ledge and waiting for you when you get home. Or, at least you hope it is always there. After all, what thief would think of looking over the door for an extra key?
Just like everything else in life that is well planned, the key is missing and one of the kids must have forgotten to put it back. So you take the groceries to the neighbors and try to figure out how to get in.
Luckily the local locksmith is always available 24 hours a day and he can rescue you almost as soon as you call.
It is never a good idea to try to break in a window because you could harm the seal and most of them won’t open anyway. Sticking wrong keys and other sharp objects into the lock is not a good idea either because you could jam the lock and make it very difficult to get it open. The best advice is to wait for help.
A good locksmith company will arrive right away with all the tools necessary to unlock the door in a matter of minutes. They are licensed and bonded and always ready to roll at a minutes notice. Check with your insurance to see if you have some type of coverage for these little mishaps. If not, don’t worry because most locksmiths are very reasonable. The locksmith will be able to make you a new key and give you some better ideas on where to hide it. Safety is always an issue and that of course is a locksmith’s specialty. He might even have some ideas about adding a dead bolt to your door to make sure the house is completely secure. In any case, have a family talk and think of a different system for hiding the secret key, since it is never there when you need it and most thieves are pretty smart these days.
