Friends, today we are going to learn about the most interesting topic of maths that is conditional probability with its impact on probability calculations.
Friends, today we are going to learn about the most interesting topic of maths that is conditional probability with its impact on probability calculations. First question arises is that, what is a probability? It is a way of showing any knowledge that an event occurs or occurred in respect to other event. The conditional probability of an event A occurring given that another event B has already occurred . The mathematical expression for the following statement that an event A occurs and an event B has already occurred

P(B|A) = P(A and B) / P(A)

Baye's method or formula is another method through which we can solve the conditional probability. It states that the probability of event B is the sum of the conditional probabilities of event B given that event A has or has not occurred. This equation is for dependent events (for event A and event B)

Mathematical expression for the following is:

P(B) = P(B|A)P(A) + P(B|Ac)P(Ac)

And the equation for the two independent events (for event A and event B)

P(B)P(A) + P(B)P(Ac) = P(B)(P(A) + P(Ac)) = P(B)(1) = P(B)

Let us take an example to understand the concept behind the conditional probability problems: calculate the probability of getting a head when we toss a coin.

So, we all know coin has two faces either head or tail. So when toss happens only one side of coin is visual. So the probability of getting a head is:

1 - ½ = ½. So the probability of getting a head is 0.5 or ½.

Statistics, on the other hand is the practice or science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities. It is a study of the collection, organization, analysis and interpretation of the data. So the two things, probability and statistics, together plays an important role in finding out measures of central value, measures of spread of different data and this helps in comparing of two data.

Statistics is the science which deals with variations, randomness, and chance. Now we know how probability and statistics can help in the analysis of data.

We have to calculate a range for 9, 11, 4, 8, 5, 6, 2000, the lowest value is 4 and the highest value is 2000 then the range is: 2000 – 4 = 1996.
