Taking special care regarding the details of second weddings, such as the wedding theme, where the wedding takes place, the décor, and the program for the ceremony, will help make this time special and something to remember. Making arrangements for certain details helps to preserve lovely memories that will be valuable for a long time.
Many couples who plan second weddings already have kids from another relationship. When this is true, it is strongly recommended that couples sit down first with the kids, before other family members or friends, to let them know about the engagement. This allows the children to say what they want and not be inhibited by the presents of other people. This is the appropriate time also to request their input. Letting the children share their ideas commonly helps second weddings go more smoothly. After the children are told of the wedding and have had an opportunity to accept the plan, it's then alright to tell the parents of the bride and groom, siblings, and good friends.
The people who attend second weddings are not required to bring wedding gifts. In most situations, people getting married for the second time already have many of the same items and don't want to cram more things inside a house that will be combining two families. It is suggested to note on the invitations that gifts are not expected, or you can request that guests donate to charity using you and your spouse's name.
Additionally, second weddings are a precious way for children to be part of the wedding celebration. They may be part of the wedding party, with roles such as junior bridesmaids or flower girls, ring bearers or junior groomsmen, or even as ushers. Songs can be performed, poems read, or a candle can be lit by children during the ceremony if they are comfortable doing so.
