Number of advance studies of stem cell is increasingly resulting into cure of some common but severe diseases. Several trials using them have been given the go-ahead by the FDA and the Canadian Government launched a $48million funding package for a national stem cell bank to add to their current investment in biotech.
According to medical researches it has been found that stem cells are essential as they have the capability to treat many diseases. Medical professionals have recommended that these cells are useful if they are collected, processed and preserved for use in future if individuals or their family members need them.

Bio-technology researchers are working hard to optimize stem cell treatment and medication as they are in a process of learning more about some diseases that long have remained medical black boxes and can now be cured by stem cells.

The issue has come into lime light once again as president Obama’s affirmation to funding of embryonic cells a research that was banned from last seven years comes as a blessing to medical science. However, it seems scientists and researchers have being working on it secretly. As they reported a milestone experiment in July, using a new method to generate the first motor neurons from stem cells in two elderly women with Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS. The technique, developed by scientist, involves reprogramming a patient's ordinary skin cells to behave like stem cells, then coaxing them into the desired tissue-specific cells. Using the motor neurons created from ALS patients, scientists can now study the progress of the disease as the affected cells develop, degenerate and die in a dish — something researchers could never do before for such slow-moving conditions. Once scientists understand the development of ALS, they may be able to create more effective treatments, or perhaps even a cure.

In another experiment scientists removed stem cells from the legs of three-month-old healthy mice and injected them into the legs of mice that had temporary leg muscle injuries, induced by barium chloride injections, injections boosted the leg muscles of mice and warded off the typical loss of muscle mass that comes with aging. The discovery could be useful in treating humans with degenerative diseases such as muscular dystrophy, as well as help everyday people prevent at least some of the ravages of time.

In type I diabetes, the patient's own immune system turns on the beta cells that produce insulin, the hormone that breaks down the glucose we eat in food. Eventually, the immune cells will virtually eliminate all of the body's beta cells, and glucose levels will start to climb. Researchers believe that the trigger for this attack lies somewhere within the immune cells, so one possible treatment for the disease may be to wipe out the entire existing immune system and replace it with a fresh one, derived from stem cells without this destructive trait.

Transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells is an effective treatment for patients with malignant blood diseases. The composition and quality of the transplanted cells are crucial to the outcome. Researchers have now developed a method to improve the quality of the transplanted cells using ultrasound for cell separation.
