Most of us will probably be more used to eating honey on our bread or cereal than we are with using it as part of our beauty regime but active honey has many properties which make it perfect for use on the skin. In fact, although most people are unaware of using active honey of beauty toady, ancient cultures often used actual honey on the skin.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is the most commonly used active honey for the purposes of beauty and therapy - it is a type of monofloral honey. This means that is produced by bees who have fed upon flowers, in this case the manuka flower which you may know by its more common name of tee tree.

Properties

Although you may not have heard of active honey and manuka, you will probably have heard of tea tree and its ability to act as an antiseptic and antifungal. This is why it is so commonly used in mouthwashes and disinfectants. Well, as the manuka honey comes from the tea tree plant, it too possesses these qualities and so can be used in a similar fashion on the skin. For example, it can be used on wound dressings to help disinfect the affected area. It can also be used to sweeten the breath and many people also believe that eating it can help with illnesses such as; colds, flu and throat infections. Honey has long been known as an antiseptic and active honey is even more so, so it can work well when applied to damaged skin.

Beauty

Active honey is not only beneficial to broken and infected skin, but it is also great for beauty too. You see it promotes the production of collagen and elastin. Anyone who has ever bought a high end skin cream will know that they contain collagen and elastin. These are chemicals which can help to plump and firm the skin giving a younger look,, so by applying active honey to the face, you could improve the appearance of your skin and take years off your look without using any nasty chemical treatments.
