Life is always presenting us with difficult situations. The first sentence in M. Scott Peck’s book The Road Less Traveled is “Life is difficult.” Following that Mr. Peck explains, “This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths… Once we truly know that life is difficult… then life is no longer difficult. Because once accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.”
“Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.” – Virginia Satir

Because once accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.” That’s the key. Accepting it.Acceptance, period. What is happening is happening. No amount of worry or procrastination or cursing is going to change the circumstances of now.
We have these situations. Some, like a traffic jam, may be more of a nuisance than anything. Then others, like financial challenges or health problems, cause much deeper feelings of inadequacy and anger. Whatever we are experiencing in our life right now is what we must experience. And if we accept that it is happening, which it is, and acknowledge the feelings we feel about it, we can actually have insight into the role we will play in the outcome. Perhaps we don’t have a role to play – the situation may have nothing to do with us. Or it’s possible that we will bring a solution to the situation. But we won’t know if we don’t have acceptance. We will not have the quietness of mind to hear our inner thoughts, our inner Truth. To find answers we must live in acceptance. It’s difficult, yes. But life is difficult. Accept it or else. Accept it or spend your life worrying, procrastinating, raging against life. If nothing else, you can slow down the creation of wrinkles from all that negativity.
