Bamboo flooring is still quite a new phenomenon when it comes to wooden flooring. Most people think that bamboo is a wood, however, it actually is a type of grass. One of the best things about bamboo is that it is one of the fastest growing species in the world. Bamboo can replace itself fast because of which it is becoming the chosen flooring material since it is environmental friendly. Bamboo flooring can be found in the natural honey brown color or in a light tan shade. Most people today are switching over to bamboo flooring because of its advantages in terms of price, design, environmental benefits and its natural beauty.

Bamboo flooring patterns

Bamboo can be found in different flooring patterns depending on how it is treated during the gluing process. The narrow edges can either be facing up, which would have a thin channel patter. This type of flooring surface would be quite similar to the traditional hardwood floorings patterns. There are basically two different types of flooring patterns which can be seen in bamboo, horizontal and vertical. The horizontal pattern will have node pattern which is quite striking. The vertical pattern is quite unique too because of its beautiful narrow channels which are caused when the bamboo strips are bounded together.

Carbonized and natural bamboo

There are several different choices available in bamboo flooring which homeowners will have to consider. Among these would be the color to be chosen. There are basically two types of colors available in bamboo flooring, carbonized and natural. The color of the bamboo will depend on the boiling process. The natural color of the bamboo is a creamy blonde shade. This color adds brightness to the house.

The carbonized bamboo will have a caramel smoky shade which is caused when the bamboo is boiled for a longer time in order to caramelize the bamboo. This type of color would add depth and character to the room. However, homeowners should keep in mind that natural bamboo is harder than carbonized. During the carbonization process, the hardness of the bamboo is slightly reduced. However, the difference is only nominal. On the whole, bamboo is considered to be as hard as some of the other types of hardwood flooring materials.

Another type of bamboo flooring which can be found in the market today is strand woven flooring. Basically, this is an even more eco-friendly type of flooring where the entire product is used in the process, leaving nothing to be wasted. The material which is left from the process of filleting for making carbonized and natural bamboo is later intertwined, compressed and then bound. The agent which is used in binding the material is very safe and is scratch resistant. This type of bamboo flooring resists scratches better and is even moisture resistant. Also, another benefit of the strand woven bamboo is that during the process of compression, the flooring is turned to be very hard and durable. It has grain patterns which are quite typically seen in hardwood floorings.
