The holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna run through Uttar Pradesh, and on banks of these rivers, there are many ghats that hold an important place in the religious beliefs of Hindus.
Kushinagar and Sarnath are prominent Buddhist tourist places. The Ashoka Pillar in Sarnath is of national significance. Kushinagar is the place where Gauthama Buddha breathed last.
Uttar Pradesh has a wide variety of flora and fauna that are preserved in Dudhwa National Park, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Sandi Bird Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. These places have a concentrated population of Tigers and Leopards and are open to tourists.
The Kumbh Mela celebrated here every 12 years sees the largest confluence of humans in a single place. Kathak is an Indian classical dance form that originated from this region.

Air: There are 4 International Airports and 15 Domestic Airports in Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow Airport, Taj International Airport in Greater Noida, Kanpur Airport and Varanasi Airport are the most important airports in the state. These airports ply regular flights that connect the state effectively with prominent national and international destinations.
Rail: All cities and rural regions in Uttar Pradesh are effectively connected by the Railway Network. Uttar Pradesh has the largest railway network for any state in India. Lucknow railway station, Varanasi junction, Kanpur railway station and Mathura junction are prominent railway stations in the state.
Road: 35 National Highways and 83 State Highways in the state ensure that all the cities and towns within and outside the state are linked effectively. The national Golden Quadrilateral passes through Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
