Every heart requires an electrical system to produce heartbeats. Some of these electrical systems work perfectly fine while others create an abnormal heart rhythm which should not be taken for granted for this can lead to different types of heart disorders, if not death.
Everybody’s life comes from one source and that is the heart. Therefore, the heart requires constant attention and stringent care especially of those who can potentially acquire arrhythmia, the condition of having irregular heartbeats.
According to cardiologists one’s heart is functioning normally if it makes 50 to 100 beats per minute. Once it does not conform to this pattern, there is something wrong with it.
If one’s heart produces more than 100 beats every minute there’s a big possibility that he has tachycardia, while anyone whose heartbeat is so slow could be suffering bradycardia.
The above-mentioned types of arrhythmia are common among individuals who have undergone a heart surgery or currently have high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, valve diseases, or a family health history in heart diseases.
However that the case, experts on the field of cardiology say one’s current lifestyle can also affect the performance of his heart. No matter how healthy his parents, aunts, cousins, or grandparents are, he could acquire a serious heart condition if he does not watch what he eats and stay away from vices.
One might think that his daily activities have nothing to do with his heart’s condition but if the list of his activities includes drinking, smoking, and diet pills he should be worrying already. There are actually so many other things that could trigger arrhythmia and to find out consult a cardiologist.
Do You Have a Normal Heart Rhythm?
Some say by taking your pulse you will be able to determine the normality of your heart’s rhythm but this is not always the best way to check your heart. You can probably count your heartbeats through your pulse but the accuracy of the result would still be in question.
In order to see what’s really happening to your heart, visit a cardiologist and have it examined. Cardiologists use different methods and devices to check a heart’s condition but the most popular is the electrocardiogram or ECG.
To undergo an ECG test, you shall be asked to lie down on an examination table then adhesive pads known as electrodes shall be attached onto your arms, chest and legs to detect your heart’s electrical activity.
Normally, as the heart’s electrical signals spread across its upper and lower chambers a contraction shall be produced and the heart pumps blood. Unfortunately, not all hearts have this kind of movement as revealed by various ECG records. Some have issues with the atria or the heart’s upper chambers, meanwhile others with the ventricles which are the lower chambers.
It is only by truly understanding how your heart works that you can actually tell if it is healthy or not, and having a normal heart rhythm is one sign of healthiness.
