People who’re not into cars might not have heard of the name Abarth but for car enthusiasts this name is synonymous with sport car racing and back in the 1960s the Abarth used to compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari. These days however, Abarth is the sportier version of Fiat and is a separate division of the Fiat factory. And the Abarth currently comes in three sporty versions, the Abarth Punto Evo, the Abarth 500 and the Abarth 500C.

What sets the Abarth apart from the Fiat is the performance as Abarth vehicles come with more powerful engines capable of producing more bhp and thus able to reach 62 mph quicker than its namesake. As with most Abarth dealers, if you’re looking for an Abarth dealer in Slough you would find it together with the Fiat dealer.

The Abarth badge which depicts a scorpion on a yellow and red background saw the light of day back in 1949 when Carlo Abarth and Armando Scagliarini founded the car company in Turin, Italy. It started co-operating with Fiat back in 1952 and for a long time Abarth produced exhaust pipes and tuning kits both for Fiat cars and others. After a few decades in obscurity, the Abarth name was re-launched in 2007 with the Grande Punto Abarth and is now a separate division to the main Fiat brand.

If you look at a Fiat Abarth 500 you won’t find a single Fiat badge unless you look for it somewhere in the engine bay. All the logos you find are of the Abarth scorpion and the big wheels, decorative stripes and roof-mounted wing also suggests that this is a different beast all together. It might also be a beast worth test-driving next time you’re at your local dealership.
