A weekend with the roar

Excitement was palpable in the group. Kids had a pleasing grin on their face and were ready much before the sunrise. The manner in which they had gone about collecting their caps, binoculars and cameras, the Rajasthan tours package agent knew that all this was to see the majestic Tiger in its glory and as luck would have it the group spotted fresh pugmarks almost half an hour in the forest.

“Watch out for tigers now” whispered the Tour operator agent. With hearts thumping so loud, everyone in the jeep strained and stretched their ears and eyes to the maximum to catch any sound, or sight of the Tiger and before they could even get over from the excitement of having seen the fresh pug marks, there it was, a tigress with two cubs happily drinking water in a nearby water hole.

All of a sudden the vehicles came to a standstill. The instructions of the Tour operator were still fresh in every mind so no one uttered a word, yet quietly everyone made adjustments so that kids could get the maximum opportunity to feast on the view which was in front of their eyes, while others made an all out attempt to capture these moments in eternity through the lens of their cameras.

Such is the excitement of planning a weekend in the company of the roar of Tiger. Undoubtedly the weekend zooms past and the awe-inspiring and lingering feeling of respect for the omnipresent creativity of nature leaves one mesmerised.

Why Ranthambore?

Ranthambore covers a span of 1,334 sq km along with its nearby sanctuaries like the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary. Many tourists are in fact surprised to hear that this area is also a well-known heritage site and is also one of the largest National Park in the Northern India.

Ranthambore is also a Project Tiger site and is a part of the nine tiger reserves included in this project. Besides Tiger, the other wildlife animals found in the Park are the sun-basking gharial, sturdy blue bull, spirited chital and sambar, illusive king cobra and many others like wild boar, pangolin, along with the plethora of avian species that dot the sky and green vistas of the Park.

This park was initially established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in the year 1955. It became a part of the prestigious Project Tiger project in 1973 and National Park in the year 1980. Since then the park has not looked back and is one of the best places to spot the elusive tiger in its glory.

How to get there?

Ranthambore is one of the most centrally located national Park of the Northern India. In fact so close to the major international airport of Delhi and national airport of Jaipur, it is extremely easy to visit the area. Jaipur is just 180 kms away and is connected with excellent road. Same is the case with the rail network. The nearest railway station is that of Sawai Madhopur and from there Ranthambore is just eleven kilometres away.

When to plan a visit?

Ranthambore doesn’t remain open throughout the year informed the Tour operators of Rajasthan. The Tour operator explained why this is so, “This is primarily because during the monsoons most of the roads get washed away and it takes some time for the forest department to get these areas operational”.

This is confusing said Ritwick, a curious and most talkative child of all. “Now what will I tell to my friends, when should they get in touch with you and visit this area”? “It is not as complicated as it appears”, said a smiling Tour Operators agent. He added that you can inform your friends that the best time to visit this park is in November and May, though it remains open from 1st of October till 30th June. This is the time when all the tourism zones of the park are open for visitors and the park can be enjoyed in its glory. So what are you waiting for, plan a trip to this magnificent park now.
