Notary public initially came into light during the 1500’s, when Roman Empire was ruling successfully. At that time, these notary professionals were primarily chosen by the Pope. In his absence, this work was done by Archbishop of Canterbury to whom the Pope delegated the authority. Notaries who belonged to that period were quite familiar with foreign languages and the various principles and practices of law.
On the contrary, now a notary public is selected by a written exam. If the candidate scores good marks in that examination and qualifies in the background confirmation, then he is considered to be selected. Even, the privileges have modified completely as compared to that of the Roman time. Now, a notary ensures the authenticity of the person who is signing the document to be notarized. In fact, he spends a lot of time in verifying the identity of the names involved in the signing procedure.
Though, there has always been a misunderstanding regarding a notary license that “the signature or stamp of notary automatically ensures the legality of the document”. But actually, it’s a long procedure. He verifies the client’s identity, generally by driver’s license. Then, the documents are certified by a notary and are recorded in his personal register. Even the signature of the notary public is verified as he is the concerned authority.
The public has full authority to access the record and validate the notary’s official signature at county’s clerk office. In his absence, a sample of notary’s seal and signature must be verified by the suitable regional authority which is liable for notary public.
Their official term is normally four years that becomes effective from the date specified by the commission of notary. The state’s office of secretary investigates the individual’s background who is applying for new or renewal of notary public license. An individual does not become a notary public if he does not receive his appointment of certificate from this office. A notary public gets the authority of signing the document after getting the certificate of appointment from the secretary of state.
In fact, most of the legal papers are required to be signed before getting the consideration of being authentic. That’s why most of the government offices have their official notary public. In fact, many banks also have an authorized notary public so that the documents can be authorized at their place only. There are a number of law offices too, that have official notary professionals for facilitating the documentation. So, if you also want to become a notary, then you will also have to follow a predefined procedure. Presently, there are a number of websites that offer notary supplies like notary seals, notary stamp and other things that are necessary for a notary public. They also offer personalized customer’s services that ultimately helps and guides you to become a successful notary professional.
