All in one printers are devices which consolidate different machines into one unit. They're capable of carrying out scanning, copying, faxing and of course printing tasks.
All in one printers are becoming a common choice for small businesses and home offices. These are devices which consolidate the capabilities of a printer, scanner, copying and oftentimes faxing too. Also sometimes called multifunction printers (MFPs), they spare consumers from purchasing individual devices, thus saving on space and money.

When they were released in to 90s they were very bulky and expensive. Back then only large businesses or offices were able to afford them. Also, according to observations, many of them were unreliable and produced mediocre results. But eventually, as technological advancements took place, they became more compact and dependable. Likewise, a lot of them also ended up more affordable so many could take advantage of them.

Something that employs inkjet technology is more suited for budget-conscious consumers. Even homes with occasional scanning, copying and faxing needs, other than printing, can benefit from such device. However, inkjet technology may work slower than a laser counterpart. But to great news about it is it can produce more photo-realistic images.

On the other hand, something that uses laser technology is suited for environments needing professional-looking documents and faster workflow. Although generally an all in one machine incorporating laser costs more than an inkjet rival, in the long run it's more economical because of lower operational cost. Most lasers can only produce monochrome printouts, but there are also models which are capable of dishing out color ones.

In getting one, there are some things to consider. It's a wise decision to get something from a reliable manufacturer. Compared to getting a cheap brand, a popular brand is likely to be more dependable and hard-wearing so it's going to be around for a long time, depending also on the way you use it. When you need to obtain parts and accessories for it, you won't have a difficult time finding them.

A machine should be able to multitask. Be careful as some units out there may not have functions that may be used simultaneously. If such is the case, you're better off installing different types of machines. It should also be easily operated. The interface has to be user-friendly and intuitive. It's best if there's a feature around for easy access to online support.

Some units may function even without the need to switch on the computer it's hooked up to. For instance, the presence of a port known as PictBridge allows you to print directly from a digital camera. The integration of a hi-speed USB 2.0 port and memory card reader can be advantageous as well. Look for something which allows you to scan to a device plugged into the USB port, like a USB flash memory. There's also something which features a stand-alone fax, fully functional even without the need for a computer.

Most of the time, all in one printers are suited for use within a network. The machine must have easy-integration feature to your present network structure. While there are those sporting the usual network interface, some units may be shared by computers wirelessly.
