Mysore palace is the most famous tourist attraction in Karnataka. This palace was incepted in 14th Century, but due to natural calamities it was renovated and restores in 1638. The architecture of the Mysore palace marks the Indo Saracenic approach and also filled with the blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic styles.

The palace contains three stories with the marble domes and a 145 ft five storied tower. On the above of central arch there is a very impressive and beautiful sculpture of the goddess of wealth, prosperity, good luck and abundance with her elephants called as Gajalakshmi.
Mysore palace is one of the biggest palaces in India. The most excellent period to visit Mysore Palace is throughout the month of October when the yearly Dussehra celebration is going on. During this season or festival, the royal throne of the Woodeyar kings is also displayed. The Palace’s entry is through the ‘Gombe Thoti’ which is a gallery full of Indian and European sculptures and ceremonial objects.
There is an elephant gate that leads to the main entry of the Palace. The gate is ornamented with flowery designs, and bears the Mysore imperial sign of a dual headed eagle. The palace is bounded by twelve temples. The hall itself is glorious, featuring chandeliers, and multi colored stain glass arranged in peacock designs. On climbing up the stairs, is the Public Darbar Hall or the hall for public audience, which has paintings of some celebrated artists, and offers wonderful views of the parade grounds and the Chamundi Hills.
How to reach
Mysore is well connected by road as well as by rail to the all major cities in the country. Mysore does not have any airport though there are plans to construct it shortly. The nearest airport is situated at Bangalore. By road Mysore is 139 kilometers to the south west of Bangalore. It’s a good experience to travel from Bangalore to Mysore by road and will take about 3 hours. Every half an hour there is a non-stop bus to Mysore from Bangalore Bus Station.
Mysore is very well connected by the rail too. There are many trains that run to and from Bangalore. The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore at a distance of 139 kilometers. All of the major domestic airlines operate their flights to Bangalore from all the major cities in the country.
