Trane air conditioners have been on the market since the first air conditioner was patented in 1931. Reuben Trane was the inventor of the very first air conditioner unit.

The very first air conditioner patent was filed in 1931 by Reuben Trane, and Trane air conditioners have been being manufactured and sold all over the world ever since. The first unit ran by having air blow over well water in coils.
During the time in America when the first unit was patented, there was little demand for air conditioners in homes as the Great Depression was raging across the nation. Movie theaters were the first businesses to really embrace this new invention, and soon they were in almost every theater in the nation.
Trane engineers during World War II not only outfitted thousands of Naval ships with their equipment to support the troops, but they also developed a piece of technology called the intercooler. This equipment was installed in Allied planes and allowed them to perform as well as their German counterparts.
The housing industry began requesting air conditioning units in the 1950s for new homes being built as well as older homes that needed remodeling. By this time the units had become smaller and easier to install in residential homes. Businesses were still the primary customer from the private sector, and the demand from both the military and these clients kept Trane profitable as well as busy.
A new challenge was in store for the air conditioning world in the 1970s and 1980s with the emergence of energy concerns. Suddenly the units needed to be cost effective to buy as well as to run. This fueled not only Trane but other manufacturers to design and produce machines that would run on a minimal amount of energy.
While there are many varieties of units to choose from on the market today, central heating and air units are a popular favorite for homes being built. Window units are also very popular, but if many will be needed the amount of energy consumed can be more than that of a central unit.
The needs of each business or residence for their heating and cooling needs will depend greatly on the geographic location. The nearer to the Equator that a company or home is located, the greater their need will be for an efficient way to cool a space. The further away from the Equator a space is located, the greater the need for effective heating will be. The type of space needing to be conditioned will also need to be taken into consideration before a unit is purchased.
Since the invention of Trane air conditioners over 70 years ago, the air conditioner has undergone major chances and renovations. With more international customers than ever before, there are many more changes ahead for this industry. With so many different geographic locations needing to be serviced, products will need to be diversified and costs adjusted to meet the needs of various economies. In some countries the need for heating will far outweigh the need for cooling, and the opposite will also be true.
