We really don’t enjoy the loud, piercing noise and strobing lights of fire alarms. But, we can’t underestimate the importance of Flame Detector. From industrial environments to complex hazardous processes, the risk of explosion is a critical concern. However, basic equipment does not warn the conditions beyond normal limits. As the industry vapours and gases burn with high flame temperatures and are dangerous, external fire detectors and gas detectors with a rapid sound alarm system is pivotal to save the lives and valuable equipment in the facility. However, the reliability depends on having the right detection system with the right kind of fire detectors.

Choosing the Right Smoke Detector

Flame detectors are devices that have sensors built into them that are capable of detecting the products that cause a fire. Sensors are the key component of a fire protection system and consist of several subsystems, including the flame detection devices, the notification and suppression activation, and a controller that receives the signal from detection devices to initiate the alarm. The fire detection system falls into three categories, including smoke, flame, and fire gas detectors. Many devices on the market have two or more of these sensors for better protection. So, it is important to determine which type of detector you need for your facility.

As you see, there’s no single method of fire detection that is universally applicable. Given the different types of fires that can occur and many applications and environments in which they are needed, every application will be unique. Hence, understanding the fire risk is crucial to determine the right devices.

Here are the factors you need to consider before making any decision

Combustibles

The nature and quantities of combustible materials present in the atmosphere or confined space or industry, their ease of ignition, the ability of smoke production, the heat release rate, the rate of fire growth and spread, and likely form of combustion should be factored when looking for a smoke detector equipment.

Environmental Factors

Environmental factors such as the extents of the pollutants present in the atmosphere, temperature and humidity, cleanliness, the type of work done in the facility, height and geometry of the protected area, and other active and passive fire protection measures present, should also be considered.

Ease of Installation

Make sure the smoke detectors should be easy to maintain and install. Battery-operated smoke detectors are easier to install than wired system.

Regular Testing

The smoke detectors must be tested regularly to ensure that they are working properly.

Irrespective of the type of flame detection equipment you decide to install at your worksite, proper installation is critical. Moreover, the smoke detectors should be tested and maintained properly to ensure its efficiency.
