The HTC Desire HD has been a very successful handset for the increasingly popular Taiwanese manufacturer, and this hardly comes as a surprise when one takes a glance at the spec list of this impressive handset.
The HTC Desire HD has been a very successful handset for the increasingly popular Taiwanese manufacturer, and this hardly comes as a surprise when one takes a glance at the spec list of this impressive handset.

Boasting the very best in both hardware and software, the Desire HD really is a jack of all trades. Rather than excelling at one particular task, it has the technology to provide powerful functions for all kinds of tasks during day to day use.

Hardware
The HTC Desire HD has a large hi-res touchscreen which is great for multimedia users; videos, photos, games and web pages are all displayed in the utmost clarity and quality, thanks to a resolution of 480x 800 and the ability to display up to 16 million individual colours. The screen is also quite large at 4.3 inches, adding to the multimedia experience. The screen is also of course a highly responsive and intuitive means of navigating the user interface. This is thanks largely to the powerful 1 GHz processor under the hood which provides the computing power to make many aspects of the hardware as well as software run smoothly and efficiently. The HTC Desire HD is of course a competent camera phone. With 8 megapixels at its disposal, the resulting images are superb, especially when viewed on the high resolution screen. With a dual-LED flash, HD video capture and an extensive package of image enhancing features, this is the perfect phone for those who like to take photos when out and about. The beauty of the camera is that has many setting and advanced features for photography enthusiasts to play with, but it remains simple enough to use for those who only take the occasional picture.

Software
The HTC Desire HD runs Android 2.2 Froyo as its operating system of choice, but users can update this to v2.3 (Gingerbread) to enjoy all the additional features of the latest version of the operating system for smartphones. Over the top, HTC’s custom Android UI called Sense is on hand to provide what is arguably the most innovative and ingenious user interface available for smartphones. With many features which make everyday use that little bit more convenient, it offers solutions for commonly encountered problems when browsing the web, sending messages, making calls and using maps software to name but a few. And then of course, there is the subject of apps. Like the famous AppStore from Apple, the HTC relies on Android Market for its downloadable apps. This offers hundreds of thousands of apps, many of which are free (at the time of writing there are now more free apps in Android Market than AppStore). By downloading apps straight to your phone, you can take the functionality of the handset to a whole new level. Whether it is for work or entertainment purposes, the Android Market is on hand to provide you with the apps you need, downloaded straight to the phone in a matter of minutes, and sometimes seconds.

The combination of the superb hardware and innovative software means that the HTC Desire HD is truly one of the most comprehensively functional smartphones currently available. Whilst it has recently been success as the manufacturer’s flagship device by the new HTC Sensation, it still offers a great choice for those on the search for their next smartphone.
