Apart from work pressure, sometimes you may also feel that no new designing idea is coming into your mind. If you also feel that your creativity is dying, then here are some helpful tips for you to remain motivated.
1. Create Your Own Space-The environment of your workstation can improve your productivity. Make sure that your desk is organized and clean. Designers spend long hours in front of computers and you need to make sure that the positioning of your computer is perfect for your viewing angle.
2. Set Realistic Goals- When you set the deadline for any project don’t take any extra pressure. If you think that a design will take 15 days and the client insists you to finish it in 12 days, clearly tell him that it’s not possible. Quality of work often gets affected due to the pressure of deadline. When you complete the design, give yourself some reward. It will help you to stay motivated for your next project.
3. Know Your Flow- Every designer has his own working hours. When you work in a web design company, it may not be possible to work according to your mood, but when you work as a freelancer, you can certainly do that. For instance, If you feel comfortable working at early morning, then work only during that time.
4. Do the Homework- Before you start a working on a project, gather as much information as possible, remember the most important points and forget rest of it. Sounds surprising? When you meet with your client he may give you many suggestions, but if you follow his ideas blindly, you won’t be able to show your creativity. Unleash your creative thoughts and be confident that your design will win your client’s heart.
5. Escape the Office- The hectic 9 to 5 office can damage your creativity. You should take a leave sometimes and go for a long drive or a walk in the park to feel free, and restore your peace of mind.
6. Don’t Compare Yourself- There must be some designer who are better than you, but that does not mean you should keep comparing your work with them all the time. Inferiority complex can drain your motivation as you will always think that your work is not good as theirs and you will never become a good designer.
7. Meet Other Graphic Designers- You should join social media sites and graphic design forums to communicate with other graphic designers. When you feel low, ask your friends how they cope up with lack of motivation and they may help you find a way to rejuvenate your creative energy.
8. Carry Your Sketchbook/Tablet- Wherever you go, you should always carry your sketchbook or iPad with you. You never know when a beautiful landscape or building will give you an idea of a new design. Whenever you see something inspiring, make a sketch and I am sure, it will help you later in your designs.
9. Search for Inspiration- You should go to the cultural events in your area to broaden your horizons. When you have inspiring and wonderful thoughts in your mind, it reflects in your design as well.
Don’t pressurize yourself and learn to relax after finishing a design. Don’t jump onto the next project as soon as a project is finished. These 9 tips will help you to stay motivated as a graphic designer and you will be able to cross over the hurdle of monotony.
