With the fast-paced way of living and the advancement of technology, a lot of business operations had been going on round the world which contributes to the sudden change of climate causing global warming. With this, there is an extensive effort to reduce business carbon footprint to help save the environment as early as possible.

Carbon footprint is total amount of greenhouse gases produced by human activities in a given time frame. It's difficult to totally eliminate business carbon footprint because some operations might be affected. Instead there are helpful ways on how to reduce a business carbon footprint, which are enumerated below:

1. Business companies must first assess their own carbon emission so that proper methods can be applied to limit carbon release brought by business operations.

2. Recycling is a good remedy to reduce business carbon footprint. Things and supplies used in the office such as paper, pens, plastic cups and bottles must not be thrown away or burned. Instead, these can be sold to junk shops or better yet, create your own Materials Recovery Facility to process recyclable materials in your company.

3. A very practical step to save energy which can help reduce carbon emission is to turn off electrical equipment that is not in use. Business carbon footprint’s can be reduced if renewable energy is used instead of fossil fuel or coal. A good example for this is the solar energy that can also help produce electricity. By doing this, business operation is cheaper and environment-friendly.

4. Business operations use much electricity so to save energy and to reduce business carbon footprint, your company can install energy-saving bulbs, use low carbon technologies, and replace old equipment with new ones. Maintenance of equipment must be done regularly to assure quality production.

5. If possible, lessen the activities of your business that require carbon emission. Example of this is to avoid travelling since vehicles are number 1 contributor of carbon dioxide. Your business operations may opt for telecommuting or online operations where the internet can be used.

6. Business companies must take the lead in creating environmental policies. For better results, companies should ask the experts on how to formulate carbon management schemes. By doing the right formula, for sure business carbon footprint can be reduced as early as expected.

To achieve the goal of reducing business carbon footprint, everything must start from simple steps because great things start from small beginnings.
