About the 5 faux pas Google made in 2010.
|
Google, not only a search giant but also the worldwide trade leader. Usually, the whole world is ready to listen to Google, however, the giant does not enunciate objective truth all the time. In 2010, Google even got entangled in 5 faux pas:
1 Google Street View Renewed privacy dispute
Yes, Google was in deep trouble in privacy dispute this year, the Google Buzz has not quite blown itself out, Google Street View rekindled raging waves. As Google Street View Wi-Fi gathered privacies, Google has to apologize to the victims and the public for improper information collection, even including abusing email and password.
In August, widespread privacy fear was caused, the moment Google declared its intention on launching Google Street View in roughly 20 Germany metropolis this November. Additionally, Hamburg Data Protection Office chief, Johannes Caspar criticized Google because it was lack of a appeal hot line for the German, he suggested that Google had disappointed the masses by its poor privacy protection on Google Street View and lost the chance to win trust of the public.
To make matters worse, EU multi-national Government intervened the investigation, meanwhile, FCC in the USA, conducted an investigation into the privacy dispute, either. Consequently, Google has to keep on making apologies and trimming Google Street View Wi-Fi.
Definitely, Google suffered privacy disputes in 2010, maybe the giant has learnt how to protect the privacy despite it paid a heavy price.
2 Google – Verizon farce
Also in this August, a joint statement had been released by Google and Verizon, saying the fixed-line broadband providers should not discriminate against lawful Internet service providers, meanwhile, the supervisory authority was the subject of right for monitoring. But, their statement failed to impress the Democratic members of Congress, who considered the Google – Verizon deal as a potential monopoly, and lack of consumer protection.
Criticism rushed into the Google – Verizon deal since then, opposite voices were not only from the public interest groups but also consumer groups. Both Google and Verizon were fumble for a net neutrality, on the other hand, the fixed-line operator and telephone operator have also been involved in this argument, they complained about its negative influence on price limitation which would be a stumbling block for their profits and reinvestment.
No matter what stand you hold on the Google – Verizon deal, the public seem more inclination toward the net neutrality. Law of the jungle, seems unacceptable by the public, even the industry giant could not infringe.
3 Google Buzz disputeEarly in this February, Google released Google Buzz, which allowed Gmail users to follow the real time updating and sharing of their general contacts. Yet, the question is, “Gmail general contacts” is different from “Gmail user friends”, thus some Gmail users filed a lawsuit with Google on invasion of privacy. Later in November, Google compromised the lawsuit with Gmail users, as a result of which Google promised to remove a hidden privacy danger. Moreover, Google planed to create a fund, with a huge sum of money, $ 8,500,000.
4 Google withdrew the Chinese mainland
In this March, Google declared its decision on closing the Continental Home. As mentioned in Google official blog “We are committed to working responsibly to resolve the very difficult issues raised. Posted by David Drummond, SVP, Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer”.
Until now, I’m afraid that I still can not be in favor of Google’s renounce determination, at the expense of the insecure web service, Google indeed lost immense users.
5 Google Wave’s failure
Google Wave, a certain kind of web service, based on computing platform and communication protocol. Aiming at real time communication, wiki and social networking, developed by Google Sydney branch.
However, this August, Google proclaimed its abandonment on Google Wave, because of Wave’s negligible user concerns. While, retrospecting to Wave’s early birth, great attention was once paid to.
Generally speaking, Google Wave was somewhat a mixture, the composition of Email, Microblog, and real time communication facility. Unfortunately, Google failed to forge ahead smoothly on the development of business scope, Wave was just a typical example.
Finally, Google admitted Wave’s failure, maybe the most important thing for Google at the present stage is a reexamination. To be honest, an express development does not mean everything, while exact orienting is vital for long-term strategy.
