However, modern sculpture and architecture are said to be emerged at the later part of the 19th century. This way, 19th century can be truly identified as the period when modern art took birth. The significant event marking the birth of modern art is the exhibition of the paintings of Édouard Manet in Paris in the year 1863. His celebrated 19th century art Le déjeuner sur l'herbe is said to be a milestone in starting the trend of modern art, which is still today is very much in demand. Earlier in 1855, Gustave Courbet’s The Artist's Studio and in 1784, Jacques-Louis David’s painting The Oath of the Horatii too created ripples among the art lovers. Importantly, each of these arts has significant contributions in the development of modern art. Thus, 19th century art positively marks an absolutely new beginning – Modern Art. Édouard Manet, Gustave Courbet and Jacques-Louis David are the artists who are said to have laid the foundation of modern art. However, Immanuel Kant is considered as the first real modern artist. The subject matter of most of the pioneer artists of 19th century focusing on modern art was centered on Romanticism, Realism and Impressionism. During the end of 19th century, the artists were seen to be influenced by the additional movements taking place across the globe and this led to the emergence of new trends in modern art. Consequently, post-Impressionism and Symbolism became the source of inspiration for a large number of modern artists of this era. There were several factors that influenced the artists of the 19th century. The influence of Eastern decorative arts, mainly the Japanese printmaking, has been found critical in shaping the development of modern art. The colouristic innovations of Turner and Delacroix were another noteworthy development of this era. The realism, depicting common life of human beings, was significantly reflected in the works of painters like Jean-François Millet.
