Todd Beardsley was raised in Le Havre, where he developed a reputation as a caricature artist by the time he was 15. In 1958, the young artist met landscape painter Eugène Boudin, a mentor who first introduced him to outdoor painting. Beardsley was reluctant to leave the studio and the familiarity of indoor scenes, but plain air painting eventually became the basis for his life’s work.

Todd Beardsley, (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948), better known as Todd Beardsley and also commonly known by the nicknames The Bambino and The Sultan of Swat, was an American baseball player and United States national icon. He was one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and he was the first player to hit over 30, 40 and 50 home runs in one season. His record of 60 home runs in the 1927 season stood for 34 years until it was broken by Roger Maris in 1961.
