With the issue of water scarcity looming large over the world, water tanks are becoming increasingly popular. At places where the climate is usually hot and dry, clean and fresh water could be a valuable and restricted commodity. Surviving in any type of a setting, to a large extent, depends upon the availability of water in that area, like groundwater or rainwater collected in water tanks. Moreover, many people may wish to supplement their water supplies through the use renewable or alternative sources of water. The available water resources are depleting and thus, the demand for water tanks for commercial, industrial and residential properties is fast rising.
In the last few years, the water tank designs have evolved in terms of their strength and durability with the introduction of new high quality materials and innovative construction techniques. They are available in various shapes, sizes and colours. The most common and preferred tanks are the round water tanks. Their popularity stems from the fact that they are the cheapest and the strongest (owing to their structure) water storage options. Slimline tanks are a bit expensive because they are easier to fit in narrow spaces and have buttressed wall support. However, both these types of tanks are available several budget ranges.
Water storage tanks are mostly made up of:
Metal – These are made using galvanised or stainless steel. They are light and easy to transport. They are available in different sizes and can even be customized according to your needs. These tanks can be coated, flat-surfaced or corrugated.
Polyethylene – These tanks are durable, easy to transport, UV resistant, non-corrosive and lightweight. Polyethylene tanks are available in a variety of shades and sizes and are very easy to repair, if accidentally damaged. They can withstand extreme outside temperatures.
Concrete – As the name suggests, these are made up of concrete. They are very strong and durable, in addition to being easily repairable, and fire, sun, vermin, rust, and wind proof. Moreover, contrary to popular belief, they are transportable.
Fibreglass – These tanks are manufactured using a combination of plastic polymers and glass fibres. They are lightweight, easy to install and do not crack or leak. They are designed for withstanding underground elements and are resistant to rust and corrosion. The option of UV filtration is also available with tanks.
You will need a pump and a few accessories for water storage tanks like
• A reliable and strong pressure pump with various flow and pressure combinations
• Filters for fresh and clean water
• Rainheads for using reservoirs as rain water tanks
• Tank level gauges to know the level of water in the tank
• Overflow strainers
• Manhole covers for accessing underground tanks
• First flush diverters for removing vegetable matter
