Use Mental Exercise To Prevent Alzheimer’s

Many people are living longer thanks to advances in medicine. The physical body is capable of living longer then ever before.
Alzheimer’s is a debilitating disease that affects memory, cognition, and the ability to perform normal daily functions. There are ways though to prevent Alzheimer’s or at least slow the progression down by using mental exercise and other cognitive brain training activities.
For most people, going through the normal daily routines doesn’t challenge the brain enough to keep it sharp, active, and hold it back from deteriorating over time. It is important to challenge your brain through various activities so your brain learns to fire more actively, even when you aren’t using it. Thus, effectively reversing Alzheimer’s symptoms and/or preventing and slowing the entire process down.
Recent studies on brain research have shown that daily brain training could reduce the chance of getting Alzheimer’s by as much as 50%. This is significant finding and it would only make sense to participate in such training to reduce your own chances of ever contracting this serious disease.
There are even more studies conducted worldwide that have shown similar results. People that only complete up to the eighth grade or less are far more likely to develop a cognitive disability than someone who receives far more schooling. School it seems keeps our brain active and sharp and reduces cognitive decline.
Mental exercise works in much the same way as training any other part of your body, only you won’t have to lift weights to see progress. To get the best results, you will however have to train and challenge your brain on a consistent enough basis for it to show any effect. Here are a few things you can do.
The newspaper has many games that can challenge and train your brain. Sudoku, word scramble, crosswords and trivia are all free games that you can use to train your brain and give it proper and daily exercise.
There are thousands upon thousands of card games that you can also play with others or by yourself to get the same kind of results. Even games like Poker and Bridge can work wonders!
If you really want to challenge your brain, challenge yourself with a project that will really make you think. Try to learn a new language or delve into computer programming.
You can also go online and just do a search for mental exercise and you will find tons of free games that will challenge and test your mental capacity. Just be sure to do something each day to get the absolute best results.
