Anyone who owns their home (well has a mortgage anyway) takes great pride in the way it looks inside and out. Usually, you will share your home with your partner and this is where the trouble can start. It’s a well-known fact that relationships work better when people are little bit like “chalk and cheese” but when this spills over into interior design, all sorts of things can go wrong.

For example, you like bold and bright, your other half likes calming colours and soft fluffy cushions. You see where it’s going. For the most part we all manage a compromise but when you’re decorating your new home (especially if it’s your first time living together), tempers can become frayed.

What You Can Do About It?

Well, you could just give in to the every whim of your partner, but that’s hardly fair is it? You could also be the “aggressor” and insist everything is the way you want it, but that isn’t fair either. To help out with this little quandary, let’s take decorating the bathroom as an example.

Using the bathroom as an example is great because everyone has their own individual wants from this room. Generally men are the ones that like to get in the shower, take a few minutes to wash off, jump out and have a quick shave and then leave.

Women on the other hand tend to like this space to be somewhere they can pamper themselves and they tend to spend much more time using this room in the home. Now, this isn’t to say that women should have first refusal on say, what bathroom suites you have, as after all men do spend time in this room as well.

What Next?

The first thing to do is decide on the colours and this can easily be done by getting yourself some brochures. When you’ve decided on what types of bathroom suites you would like, it is time to think about what type of shower you would like. You have to think about how much space is needed to ensure that the shower is comfortable and not restricting.

If you both work together on the main pieces of furniture that you are going to need and that includes your bathroom sink as well as the mirrors and cabinets, then you’ll be surprised at how everything will slowly start to take shape.

The Easy Way

Of course, you could just call in a designer who can do all the hard work for you. They’re trained to take both sets of ideas and gel them together in the blink of an eye and, quite honestly, this route could be a relationship saver! However, there will be extra costs involved in hiring a designer so you will need to check your budget first.

When it comes to decorating your bathroom and you’re trying to decide on what bathroom suites will suit you and your partner best, don’t let it cause an argument. Instead, consider using a professional interior designer to help.
