Overview
One of the oldest settlements in the Tenerife Island is Taganana. It is the most peaceful remote village in Tenerife but it is very difficult to reach this village. Nature lovers and walkers find this village a paradise. It is situated in the municipality – Santa Cruz de Tenerife – on the Tenerife Island. The population of this village was 592 in the year 2009. It is connected by road to Las Mercedes and San Andrés.
The travel to this fishing village was possible either by boat or foot until the year 1960. A tunnel was made to solve this problem and at preset road journey is possible through this tunnel. But the new road has lots of winds, twist and turns, thereby making the journey somewhat difficult. This effort has facilitated traveling to this little but beautiful village. It has steep mountain slopes that descend from the mountains – Anaga – to the Atlantic Ocean.
The small village square is next to the parish church which you could explore. Two most important things in this place are - Cultural Centre Parranda and Malvasia wine.

The average temperatures in a year are as follows:
1.Maximum – 24 °C in the month of August
2.Minimum – 17 °C in January
Art and Culture
One of the buildings that have been preserved in the village Taganana is the temple that has been dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows and it is one of the ancient buildings on the Tenerife Island in addition to the small houses. The interiors have 16th century Flemish style and it is a valuable treasure of art. You can see the Anaga massif’s natural wealth – lush forests, untouched beaches – around Taganana.
Sports and Entertainment
If you take a stroll around the narrow streets of Taganana, you will see the old simple Canarian houses. San Roque and Benijo pebble beaches are highly popular with local surfers and there are a few bars and restaurants in this place.
High winds along the coast of Taganana could be awesome and tourists should be careful. Even when the sea is calm, there could be sudden dangerous currents and it is advisable to take advice from local people before taking a bath.
You can hike from Benijo to the village of El Draguillo – it got its name from a surviving dragon tree - along a dirt road that hugs the cliffs above the sea.
Business
The economy of this village is driven by agricultural products – potatoes, wine crops, yams and sweet potatoes.
