There is no doubt about it; the microwave oven is one of the 100 inventions that have changed the world today and without it most of us would probably be unable to prepare breakfast or reheat dinner at all.
Microwave oven installation itself is not as simple as pressing a button and waiting for the corn to pop.
First of all congratulations on your new purchase, I am guessing you are all excited about it and can’t wait to fire it up. A word of caution here, it is advisable to take the time to install your oven properly as a poorly installed device will not function as it should. It will not heat or cook food properly and may even become a hazard to you and your family.
Your oven most likely came packaged in its own box with plastic and foam and other trappings. Remove them all carefully, remember to take care to check the inside of the oven for any packing material, else you might accidentally cook it, and be careful when unpacking the turntable. Almost all of them are made of glass which is sturdy but breakable. All plastic packing material needs to be taken off, ditto for Styrofoam and cardboard as they will either melt or catch fire. Neither of which are what you had in mind when you wanted to cook.
When deciding where to place the microwave in your kitchen, here are some factors to keep in mind. It needs to be close to an outlet to avoid wires getting in the way. It should be kept far away from a heat source, for e.g. don’t install it above the burners. You can mount it on the wall, keep in on the countertop or tuck it out of sight in a cabinet. Make sure the door can swing open without hindrance and it can be cleaned easily. In case you have children, place it on a higher level if you don’t want them to use it or within their reach if they would be using it frequently.
As with all electrical appliances that are used frequently, like your television, it is better to give the microwave oven its own plug and not use a multi-socket or an extension cord. Make sure that the plug of the microwave fits the electrical socket exactly. This is where you may want to give your electrician or handyman a call, to ensure that the wiring is done safely and properly.
Though installing a microwave is almost as easy as using it to cook something, you may want to keep the above guidelines in mind.
Your microwave oven will also most likely come with its own installation guide. It’s a good idea to read that thoroughly before installing the microwave and you can always call the manufacturer if you have any questions about the product or how to install it.
