Little Fockers is the last part of the Meet the Parents trilogy that debuted in 2000 with the movie carrying the same name and Meet the Fockers which was launched four years later. The movie starring Robert de Niro, Ben Stiller, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman is the first movie in this highly successful series that was not directed by Jay Roach, but by Paul Weitz.
The plot of the movie is very simple: Greg and his wife Pam, who is the daughter of a retired CIA agent Jack, have 5-year-old twins, Samantha and Henry. Jack (Robert de Niro) starts to have some serious health problems and puts Greg in charge of the family. Soon after his decision, Jack begins to have strong doubts about this as he thinks that Greg (Ben Stiller) has an extramarital affair with Andi Garcia, who is a representative of a pharmaceutical company with whom he sells Sustengo, a erectile dysfunction drug. Greg is not really having an affair with that woman but Jack believes so because of Andi’s drunkenness and various coincides that occur during the movie.
To prove that he is fully capable of taking care of the family, Jack attempts to get his twins into a better school, builds a new home and puts his finances into order. Before meeting Bob who is Debbie’s ex-husband, Jack tells Greg that there wasn’t a moment in his life when he was happier after getting of the “hamster wheel” and that Jack was the first and only choice to lead the family and also gave him the “Bobfather” title which makes him a little bit angry. Greg and Jack later on resolve all of their issues at the birthday party of the twins after getting into a fight from which Jack suffers a heart attack Greg eventually saves his life.
The movie ends on Christmas Day, four years later, when Jack, Roz, Dina and Bernie com to spend Christmas with Greg and Pam in their new home and Greg’s parents tell grandchildren, to which Roz and Bernie are happy to hear about, although Greg and Pam insist neither move.
The production of Little Fockers began in July 2009 and the movie was supposed to be launch on July 30, 2010, but Universal decided to postpone the launch until December 22, 2010, hoping that it will get more earnings thanks to the long Christmas weekend. On June 24, 2010 the first trailer was launched in front of showings of Dinner for Schmucks and Grown Ups. The second one was released on the Internet on November 10th and was attached to Skyline, Unstoppable and Morning Glory. The movie was released in United States and United Kingdom on December 22nd.
On opening weekend, Little Fockers managed to earn $34,016,000 from about 5,000 screens in 3,536 locations across the United States and Canada. It managed to grab $48.3 million during the first five days of the launch. As of January 9th, the third part of the installment grossed about $123,982,000 in US and Canada plus $73,858,000 from other countries, managing a total of $197,840,000.
