Kidney cyst is classified into many types and different types of kidney cyst have different prognosis. If your doctor just told of a cyst in your kidney, you had better figure it out. In this case, you don’t have to be very worried or too careless to miss the best chance to treat it. Read on to know the type of kidney cyst and see whether your cyst is severe or not.
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)
Polycystic Kidney Disease is a hereditary disease. The patient’s kidneys are covered by multiple cysts with different sizes. The wall of such cysts secretes continuously fluid, leading to continuous growth of the cysts. As cysts grow, they squeeze the kidneys. As a result, renal tissues and cells damage and kidney function becomes impaired. Most of patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease die of chronic renal failure.
PKD is easy to be neglected because patients have no obvious symptoms at beginning. At early stage, patients feel back pain, frequent urination at night and then high blood pressure. Untreated or poorly treated, PKD progresses rapidly. Survey shows after patients have had high blood pressure for about 10 years, they develop to renal failure. Therefore, early treatment for PKD is very important. (Know more about treatment, please email to jennifer52hw@yahoo.cn )
Patients with PKD often have some complications, such as kidney stone, urinary tract infection, polycystic liver, etc. Compared with impaired kidney function, such complication is not that terrible. Given proper medicines, they can be relieved.
Simple Kidney Cyst
Simple kidney cyst is also associated with gene, but it won’t develop to chronic renal failure in the future.
Usually, people over 50 years old have cysts in their kidneys. Of course, young people also may have. If the size of your cysts is smaller than 5cm, you just need to monitor it every three months. If it is larger then 5cm, usually it can be removed by surgery. Therefore, people with kidney cyst don’t have to worry a lot.
Acquired Kidney Cyst
Acquired kidney cyst can occur at any age. It is associated with hemodialysis. Survey shows that people on dialysis for over 3 years usually have at least 4 cysts in their kidneys. These cysts could induce urinary tract infection.
Complex kidney Cyst
Complex kidney cyst is cancerous. Such kidney cyst is rarely seen, so it won’t be elaborated in this article.
In conclusion, whether your kidney cyst is severe or not depends on the type of your kidney cyst. If you have Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), don’t be depressed. Although it is hereditary disease, it can be well controlled if given proper treatment.
